“Letters of Affection (Filed Under Personal Motions)”

Posted anonymously, but obviously written by Tapps

To the one who carries the weight of command in boots polished by certainty:

You are the reason I memorize my arguments more carefully. The reason I straighten my coat before walking into city hall. The reason I sometimes stare too long at the elevator doors — hoping they’ll open and you’ll be on the other side.

I’ve written laws. I’ve rewritten lives. But I haven’t yet found the courage to rewrite the silence between us.

If justice is blind, then perhaps it’s time I stop hiding behind it.
