“On Vicki Vallon and the Limits of Restraint”

Private post, briefly made public before being deleted

Some would say it’s unprofessional to admire a colleague so openly.

I say it’s unprofessional to lie about it.

Deputy Commissioner Vicki Vallon is everything a city deserves in law enforcement — poised, fearless, exacting, and tragically… entirely immune to my Latin phrases.

She doesn't know it, but every time I offer to personally hand-deliver subpoenas, I'm really just hoping she’ll ask me to stay for coffee.

Courtrooms may be my stage, but around her, I can barely rehearse the lines.

Back to work.
